Signs of Poor Gut Health

Your gut is connected to your WHOLE BODY. - You can think of it like the key to unlocking your entire health.

Everything- hormone balance, brain health, skin health, autoimmunity, chronic disease -all comes back to how your digestive system is (or isn't) functioning. This means, a proper functioning digestive system is ESSENTIAL to healing ANY type of health concern - including healing + balancing your HORMONES.

Have you ever heard the saying "all disease starts in the gut"?

Because the health of your digestion is so closely connected to the health of your whole body, the signs and symptoms associated with poor gut health can also be body wide. (& not always as obvious as you might think!)

Signs of Poor Gut Health

Common signs of poor gut health:

  • bloating

  • gas

  • indigestion

  • constipation / loose stools

  • irregular bowels

  • stomach pain

  • IBS

  • GERD / heartburn

Body-wide signs of poor gut health:

  • allergies

  • multiple or increasing food sensitives

  • auto-immune diseases

  • mood disorders (anxiety/ depression)

  • mood instability

  • eczema/ rashes

  • dry skin

  • acne

  • hormone imbalances (especially high estrogen)

  • PMS , heavy periods

  • low energy/ fatigue

  • bad breath

  • joint pain

  • inflammation throughout the body

If find yourself frequently experiencing any of these symptoms, it might be time to pause + tune in. .. Your body is sending you messages.. the longer you “just deal with it” and ignore them, the bigger the issue becomes.

(And remember.. having happy hormones is impossible without first having a happy gut! )

Possible root causes of poor gut health:

If you checked a mental “YES” to a number of the above symptoms, you are most likely wondering WHY they are there and WHAT you can do to begin your journey towards healing your gut.

The causes of digestive symptoms can vary widely, there is no "one size fits all" approach.

Here are a few of the possible root causes to an unhealthy digestive system (and therefor unhealthy body in general):

  • Low stomach acid

  • Lack of adequate enzymes

  • Stress/ always in “go mode”

  • Food sensitivities

  • Nutrient Deficiencies

  • Dysbiosis

  • Highly processed diet

  • Poor detox function

  • SIBO / overgrowth

  • Candida / yeast

  • Infections

  • Parasites / pathogens

  • Poor eating habits

(I know.. I know.. Gut health can feel extremely confusing.. I've been there too!)

Now.. before any type of healing can take place, you have to discover WHAT is really going on in the first place.. (HINT: it's more than just IBS). Once you discover what's really going on, you can make HUGE improvements with the right support and some pretty simple changes.

The type of support your body requires depends directly on the ROOT of your symptoms.- different imbalances will require different recommendations.

For example:

  • fiber is great - but not always in the case of SIBO

  • probiotics work amazing - unless you have major overgrowth

  • fermented foods support immunity - but make things worse if you have too much yeast

Supporting your gut health really does require a root cause based framework.
