Cozy Christmas Morning Hot Chocolate
Tis the season for mornings by the fire, feelings of love, hot chocolate, and cozy morning elixirs!
Elixir's are more than just expensive latte's.. They are basically powerful herbal teas with medicinal healing properties. Plus bringing in warming and soothing options during this time of the year can really upgrade the health of your kidneys.
Starting your day with a delicious, superfood-based hot chocolate will leave you feeling balanced, energized, and ready to take on the day. It’s like a regular hot chocolate that’s upgraded with functional feel-good ingredients!
This Christmas Morning Hot Chocolate is adapted from the Cozy Christmas Hot Chocolate in my Holiday Recipe Guide.
The Superfoods you will need:
Cacao Powder
Raw cacao powder (and dark chocolate) is full of magnesium and antioxidant properties- both of which are needed to reduce stress and support hormones. (Please note: Cacao and cocoa are NOT THE SAME THING)
Cacao Butter + Coconut Butter
Along with being rich in nutrients these are both high in healthy fats. This is important for blood sugar balance, hunger satiation, and hormones. including healthy fats in your elixirs will leave you with that delicious creamy taste and texture!
Cinnamon, Cardamom, + Nutmeg
These spices are all rich in antioxidants and powerful anti-inflammatory properties. They support digestion, boost metabolism, and even help to regulate blood sugar levels.
Collagen Peptides
Packed with protein, a simple scoop of this powder is also supportive to healing the lining of the GI tract, decreasing inflammation, and (BONUS) creating healthy hair, skin, and nails! Adding a scoop of collagen or plant based protein powder to your morning elixirs will create the balance you need to start off your day.
Reishi Mushroom(optional)
A great adaptogen to support both your hormones and immune system. Reishi mushroom has been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.
This Cozy Christmas Morning Hot Chocolate is creamy, soothing, and has a delicious earthy taste!
Here’s the recipe:
What you need:
1 cup nut milk
1 cup hot water
¼ cup coconut milk
1 tbsp cacao powder
1.5 tsp coconut butter
1.5 tsp cacao butter
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp cardamom
½ tsp Reishi powder
1 -2 tsp raw honey
1 scoop collagen peptides
OPTIONAL : coconut whipped cream for topping
What you do:
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth
Pour into pot and place on stove
Heat over medium-high heat until starts to boil and get frothy
Serve in a mug and enjoy!
Top with coconut whipped cream if desired
